HOW TO WINTERIZE A JET SKI - 5 Simple Steps to Winterizing Your Jet ski -
Share
If you love the thrill of riding your jet ski or Seadoo during the summer months, you know how important it is to keep it in top shape for the next season. When the cold weather approaches, protecting your watercraft through a proper winterizing process is crucial. Following these jetski maintenance steps, you can prevent costly repairs, protect your engine, and keep your Seadoo ready for action as soon as the warm weather returns. HOW TO WINTERIZE YOUR JET SKI
Step 1: Flush the Cooling System and Add Winter Proof
One of the most important steps in winterizing your jet ski is to flush the cooling system thoroughly. Flushing helps remove salt, sand, and other debris that may have accumulated while riding. Salt buildup can lead to corrosion over time, the last thing you want when storing your Seadoo for the winter.
To flush your jetski, connect a garden hose to the designated flushing port. Turn on the engine before turning on the water supply (this prevents water from flowing into the exhaust system).
Now add and run the winterproof through the system the same way you did with the water, let the engine run for 3min then shut off.
Step 2: Add Fuel Stabilizer
Adding a fuel stabilizer is a crucial part of winterizing your jetski to prevent the fuel from degrading over time. Unstable fuel can break down, causing gumming in the fuel lines and carburetor. This could make starting your jetski in the spring a real headache.
Pour the appropriate amount of fuel stabilizer into the gas tank. After adding the stabilizer, run the engine for a few minutes to ensure the treated fuel circulates throughout the fuel system. This step will winter-proof your Seadoo's fuel lines and make starting it up easier when summer returns.
Step 3: Perform an Oil Change
Next, it's time to change the oil in your jetski. Regular oil changes are critical for keeping your engine healthy and prolonging the life of your Seadoo. Old oil can be contaminated with moisture and other impurities that can damage your engine if left untreated during storage.
Run the engine for 3 min to warm and thin the oil, making it easier for extraction.
Use an oil extractor pump to remove the old oil and replace it with fresh, high-quality marine oil. Don’t forget to change the oil filter and O rings as well to complete this jetski maintenance task. Only replace exactly what you remove.
Step 4: Fog the Engine
Fogging the engine is a step that should never be skipped when winterizing your jetski. Fogging spray coats the engine's internal components with a protective layer of oil, preventing rust and corrosion during the winter months.
To fog the engine, remove the spark plugs and spray fogging spray into each cylinder for 3 to 5 sec, then run the engine for 5 sec and repeat the process again.
Step 5: Disconnect the Battery
Another key step in jetski maintenance before winter is disconnecting the battery. Leaving the battery connected for long periods without use can cause it to lose charge or even become damaged.
To disconnect the battery, first remove the negative terminal followed by the positive terminal. Store the battery in a cool, dry place where it won’t be exposed to freezing temperatures. It’s a good idea to use a battery maintainer or trickle charger during the winter to keep it charged and in good condition.
Conclusion: A Well-Winterized Jetski is Ready for Action
Winterizing your jetski doesn’t have to be complicated, but it is essential for keeping your Seadoo in top shape for the next season.
